I, Harvelyn Adams Christensen was born in 1948 and lived where Dawson, Martin, and Howard counties came together. My grandmother, Mrs. Reese Norris (Fannie) Adams, lived about a mile and a half away as the crow flies. Well don't tell anyone (most everyone is gone now) but Grandmother used to do all kinds of things that she would swear me to secrecy about. One being that we would go grave hunting for her first born daughter who had died at 6 weeks of age. We would always start out in West Knott but being unable to find anything we would get farther and farther away. Each time we would start our search we would end up going in a different direction. For anyone who has ever traveled these old dirt country roads you know they go on and on forever and it is very easy to get lost. I can't tell you how many hours we spent in these searches. Grandmother moved into Big Spring around 1953 or so so after that I don't think she was able to spend as much time searching. My family moved in to Big Spring also. I know that Grandmother worried about her daughter until the end of her life in 1965. I grew up moved away. Then in 1979 I moved back to what I call the 3 corners where our family homestead is. I was 6 months pregnant and on June 18, 1979 I gave birth to my third son John Andrew Christensen named after Grandma's brother John Andrew Lloyd who died that same day. The Lloyd family had lived down the road south of the old Knott School on Robert Brown's old place, in fact it was the same house only this was before Fannie and Reese got married in the early 1900's. The Sunday after John was born the people in the community got together and dug out an old cemetery that had been buried for many years and was covered in what I heard was up to was up to 30 feet of sand. I was unable to go my son being only 3 days old. This cemetery was exactly where Grandma always started her searches. My little aunt never had a tombstone only a cross, and that is one reason Grandmother wanted to find her grave so bad. I know without a doubt that my grandmother's daughter was buried long ago somewhere in this old Knott cemetery. I will see if I can find her name, date of birth and death, and post it. Now Grandma your search is finally over. I love you Grams. You were the best. Sorry I told your secret, but I think it was worth telling.
